This is the practical version of a conversation we have with every store owner: which payment methods to offer, what each one really costs you in refunds and returns, and how to build the checkout so people finish it.
The three ways Pakistan pays
Almost every order will arrive through one of three routes, and your store should handle all three without making the customer feel like an exception.
Cash on delivery
Still the default for a large share of buyers, especially for a first purchase from a brand they do not know yet.
Bank transfer or wallet
Common for larger amounts and for repeat customers. Needs a way to send you the receipt without leaving the site.
Card payment
Expected by some buyers and by anyone ordering from abroad. Needs a gateway account and a verified business.

Cash on delivery, done properly
COD is not just a radio button. Done badly it fills your courier account with refused parcels. Done properly it looks like this:
- Confirm the order twice - on screen, and by SMS, email or WhatsApp immediately afterwards.
- Verify the phone number for high-value or first-time orders, even with a simple code.
- Show the full amount including delivery before the order is placed, never after.
- Set a COD limit above which you take advance payment, and say so plainly.
- Record refusals so repeat offenders can be asked for advance payment next time.

Bank transfer without the WhatsApp chaos
Most stores here take transfers by posting an account number and asking for a screenshot on WhatsApp. It works, and it also means orders live in a chat window instead of your store. The fix is small:
- Show your account details on the order confirmation screen, not only in the chat.
- Let the customer upload the receipt against the order, on the site.
- Mark the order "awaiting payment" until you confirm it, so stock is not oversold.
- Email the customer automatically when you mark it paid.
Cards and wallets
Card and wallet payments need a gateway account in your business name, and approval takes documentation and time - start it before the store is finished, not after. Two things to keep in mind: every gateway takes a percentage, so price with it in mind; and the checkout must fall back gracefully if the gateway is down, so an outage becomes a COD order rather than a lost one.
Delivery charges and couriers
Delivery is where margins quietly disappear. Your store should let you set charges by city or weight, apply free delivery above a threshold if you want one, and produce the order sheet your courier actually accepts. Tracking should be visible to the customer, because "where is my parcel" is the message that costs you the most time.
The WhatsApp question
A large share of buying here starts with one question. If the only way to ask is a contact form, most people will not ask - they will leave. A WhatsApp button on every product page, with the product name already filled into the message, turns that hesitation into a conversation. It is the cheapest conversion improvement available to a Pakistani store.
A checkout that does not leak
Whatever you accept, the last screens decide the sale. Keep the form short, show the total including delivery early, allow guest checkout, keep the cart visible, and make sure the page is fast on mobile data. If you want this built around your products, our e-commerce development page explains how we do it, and a free audit will tell you what your current store is doing to visitors before they ever reach the checkout.
